Americana Gothic, Voix de Ville, Singer/Songwriter, Folk and Jazz Chamber Songs Have you ever caught a ghost... I catch them all the time... it started while song catching... so now my nearly found friends are songs. As a band we bring together professional seasoned musicians and a 'sensitive' that catches stories and makes them into songs. Our songs are sincere but also quirky and as diverse as the characters we catch in our musical web. So our style changes a bit with each character, sometimes singer/songwriter, sometimes americana, sometimes gothic, sometimes folky, sometimes voix de ville and sometimes jazzy... so we're not quite sure what our genre is. I just like to tell stories, and each character has a different 'vibe'. I am certainly not afraid of them, they have just become a bunch of rather romantic friends. I am all about tolerance - tolerance and understanding... of ghosts. THE BAND: Sabine (song writer, guitar, ukulele, toys) - born in Germany, her father who was an organ builder & musician lived with her grandmother who told her stories all day. At 6 her father’s adventurous spirit led the family to Australia. She learnt classical guitar at 13 but was much too shy to play for anyone - ever - she called herself a closet musican. She spent a while figuring out who she was and what she wanted to do and went to university to become a graphic designer. All the while playing music and writing songs in the safety of her bedroom. One day in boldness and perhaps too much whiskey she revealed her secret musicial life to a musician in America, feeling safe in their distance. She was convinced he'd laugh at her but sent a cassette tape of songs anyway. To her surprise he loved them so much he flew to Australia, recorded her album and they fell in love - perhaps not in that order. A few years later she moved to California where they now live - in a forest, surrounded by creatures and of course ghosts. Kenny (guitar, voice, saxophone, flute, recording, producer, sound engineer) - was already a professional musician at 13 playing gigs in a rock band and with many years of saxophone already under his belt. He studied music and photography at college and spent the next decade playing music with all sorts of bands and musicians from punk to reggae and jazz, perfecting his skills. To allow himself to afford to record his own music he began learning sound engineering and became quite the technical geek. He plays all manner of instruments and still plays in 5 other bands, writes his own music and has released 5 of his own albums, and is often called upon to join others. He now not only records ArtemesiaBlack and his own music but also records & produces others. His passion for music is only as intense as his passion for perfection. David (upright bass & cello) - is a scientist in the corporate world by day but by night he becomes super great at laying down a bass line as well as other musical exploits... as his real love is music and he’s quite the geek about it... and also about instruments and all things technical. He plays with numerous other bands and has a real passion for jazz. His house is always filled with great music from his extensive eclectic music selection. The band likes to hang out at his hideaway in the mountains to listen to music, rehearse and eat great food. Mike Freitas (percussion, drums) - a long time professional musician, recording artist and writer. He plays in numerous bands also and brings a beauty to percussion that is amazing to hear and watch. “10/10 ! There is not a bad song on ArtemesiaBlack. ...one of the best albums I’ve heard this year. Everything about it is perfect from the beautifully crafted songs to the haunting performances. The arrangements are spellbinding, fresh and interesting and the production is flawless. I will be listening to ArtemesiaBlack over and over again as well as introducing it to my friends. This is a great album.” Muse’s Muse Magazine CD Review 2009 “And the Grammy goes to.....! Sweet, Tragic and hauntingly awesome...” uncleDuf “What a great show last night!!
