I’m a Country Boy You’re a Country Girl 12 must-hear classic country songs, recollecting the musical careers of 12 American superstars The rustic melodies of these country songs highlight the lives of legendary American singers, recalling the youthful memories found in their lyrics A south wind blows, as the rider spurs his horse on. In the drawing gloom of dusk, together they leap over a picket fence, and gallop across a golden pasture which stretches on to infinity. They speed past a bonfire, traverse distant mountains, racing on into the solemn night. The strings of the guitar hum, sending a time-worn tune across the open landscape, where it disappears into the sound of waves crashing on the shore of the Mississippi. A song can be filled with unforgettable memories from the listener’s youth, and can tell the singer’s incredible life story. Amidst this melody unmistakably reminiscent of the land where it originated, we set out on a country road, and revisit the past generations of North American folk music legends. Listening to “Silver Wings”, the intoxicating male vocals bring out the sentiment of love in the lyrics in vivid technicolor. In “You Ain’t Woman Enough to Take My Man”, the light, playful vocals bring back images of timeless diva Loretta Lynn. She, having come from a poor family, and given birth to four children by the age of only 18, relied on her remarkable talent and tireless perseverance to become a voice for all women of her generation. John Denver, with his pleasantly straightforward sound, kept his amiable persona even after rising to superstardom. Despite discouragement he dropped out of college to pursue a career as a musician, and eventually became a classic country idol with his song “Country Boy”. Keith Whitley, in his romantically soothing song “When You Say Nothing at All”, expresses his limitless affection for his lover. Although his life ended far too early, he left behind many beautiful songs which are still widely sung today. As part the “Rhymoi and the Music of the World” series, following the previous installments of jazz and blues, producer Ye Yunchuan this time puts the spotlight on American country music, a genre which he greatly enjoyed in his youth, and which has had a deep influence in his career as a musician. These songs, which could once be heard echoing through the valleys of Tennessee, through the miracle of industrialization were later broadcast by radio signal, and now, almost a century later, they have become deserving masterpieces of artistic achievement. Mr. Ye has selected 12 songs as what he feels to be “must-hear” representatives of country music, as an homage to 12 American singers of legendary status, which together create a journey back through time to the roots of this wonderful form of music. Like previous installments in the series, this album was also produced and recorded in the starlight-bathed city of Los Angeles. In the 1970s, superstar rock band The Doors sold an unprecedented 45 million records, and still have a significant influence on the music of today. Guitarist and founding member Robbie Krieger offered Mr. Ye his support, allowing the album to be recorded in the same studio where the band performed all so many classic and award-winning songs. Legendary country musician Al Bonhomme took on the duties of artistic director; with his arrangement and music production talent, he has created an auditory experience like no other, and even contributed his own incredible guitar playing skills. The other artists performing on the album are all of celebrity status, and among them there are many surprises. Banjo artist Herb Peterson, who collaborated with John Denver for many years, and has played for the likes of songstress Dolly Parton and 1990s superstar Alan Jackson. Pedal steel guitar master Jay Dee Manness, who has played for decades with Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Merle Haggard, as well as “New Traditional Country” icon Randy Travis. Contributing vocals to the album is renowned songstress Molly Rocklind, hailing from Nashville, the birthplace of country music, who, along with highly talented and well-seasoned male vocalists Ryan Coulter and Randy Crenshaw, offer you stunning performances of these classics from the golden era of their art. The countryside will always be an intriguing, dream-inspiring place to city dwellers. When the crimson sun sinks in the west, when the radio plays that mellow, lingering tune, one’s memories of the simple life back home will bring back times of playing the harmonica by the edge of the river. Memories so distant yet still as vivid as ever begin to resurface, in the glimmer of dawn, in the embers of dusk, beneath the banyan tree, by the campfire, amidst the city lights, among the crowds of passersby.
