简介
With approximately thirty successful years in the business, we proudly present Phil Robinson, creator and lead singer of Sonora Pa Gosá, a new salsa band that has shown immense potential within the competitive enviroment of the Los Angeles Music scene. With a Dominican and Puerto Rican decent, it was invetiable for Phil Robinson to become immersed in the Latin Music scene. He grew up around musicians and began to sing and perform at the age of five. When he began to see and hear music live, his love for music grew exceptionally. Because his innate talent was so great, he performed confidentely at a tender age in front of large audiences. His early performances were in grade school, where he was often choosen as the lead singer. As his talent began to grow, he became influenced by Salsa all-stars such as Ismael Quintana and Ismael Miranda to name a few of his favorite singers. He also credits his family for his musical growth, his father played the guitar, and his mother and aunts we're in a singing trio and recited poetry. Phil Robinson began his singing career in 1970, when he moved from New York to Vineland, New Jersey, and performed with a twelve piece band called Orquesta Yaré. In Orquesta Yaré, Phil was lead singer and describes the band's music as "original and creative". Their first official apperance was at the Dia de San Juan Festival in Vineland Park, and from this point on performances and gigs became continuous. At the festival, Phil was able to collaborate with Latin artists Larry Harlow and Nestor Sanchez, which heightened his enthusiasm for performing. By working with many groups and artists in Los Angeles, Phil Robinson was able to deversify his exposure and train his talent to become flexible. Some of the groups and artists he has worked with are: Henry Mora and LA Salsa all-stars, Papo Rodrigues & LA Sorpresa and Azuquita Y Su Melao, just to name a few. Also, he has collaborated as lead singer for the popular LA Salsa group Son Mayor and for Charanga Cubana. By viewing this extensive list, it is evident that Phil Robinson has what the Salsa community embraces: a talented voice that everyone can enjoy. The Love for Latin Music seems contagious nowadays, for many reasons: the dancing, the rhythm, or even just the smiles on the faces of everyone involved, but what Phil Robinson enjoys most about Latim Music is it's musical composition and the history. Also, he stated in our interview that he like the way Latin Music can "bring all kinds of people together, even if they don't speak the language; the music sticks to you and is soothing, exciting, challenging and provides a unique experience" Recently, Phil created a new Salsa band, Sonora Pa Gosá. This is his first time as a creator and he states that he has learned much about the difficulties of having a group, specifically the dedication it requires. But, he does not frown upon the difficulties, as he has been able to reap the rewards of it. When asked why he decided to create the group, he stated the following, "I didn't like the fact that I was always performing someone elses music, it did not fit my style" Now, Phil Robinson can create his own style and perform music that he wants to hear, at his own discretion. He wants the public to identify with him by creating his own musical creations. Phil Robinson describes Sonora Pa Gosá as an energetic group with excellent musicians. When they perform they have fun and are also a very cooperative group, and when it's time to perform, they perform as if it was their last time. when working amongest his group, Phil always remembers the following: treat people with respect, offer them your friendship and respect their talents. When creating spicy salsa beats, he believes the essential elements are good lyrics, a catchy beat, and positive vibes. In order to differentiate Sonora Pa Gosá from other groups, Phil will let his music speak for him. He is incredibly selective when selecting his music and always perfers to perform originals, however the audience is first and Phil performs for the audience. To our readers Phil Robinson would like to say the following: We need to respect each other, love each other and help each other. Leave behind indifferences and hate; we are all passing through this world and when we leave we will only be rembered for what we have done. Try to lead an unselfish life; Love Yourself, family and fellow neighbor and may God Bless us all. Que Viva La Salsa.
