Antonio de la Malena, famous for his skill in accompanying dancers (he was chosen as best singer in the prestigious flamenco festival of Jerez de la Frontera of 2008), also excels in the demanding setting of a solo recital. As soloist, he is known for the profundity of his singing and his command of the numerous flamenco forms, especially seguiriyas, solea, solea por bulerias and, of course, bulerias. As recently as his recital in October, 2010, critics hailed his cante as being so forceful as to be "hair-raising…eliciting deafening ¡olés! and applause from the audience…." Because of his perfect pitch, and mastery of rhythm and compás, his bulerias is a delight to listen to, whether sung with guitar or as solo voice.
