简介

TRAY CARD: The New North Carolina Ramblers never cease to astonish their audiences with unfamiliar tunes played with unexpected instruments…and always true to their deeps roots in to old-time rural music. They have few peers who can match their abilities to find the best music from the early days of country music, now almost a century behind us. And few bands capture the spirit and heart of that music. The name of their third CD is most appropriate. LIVE because two of the tracks were recorded during the New North Carolina Ramblers’ concert at the Heritage Hall of Old Time Music stage in Mt. Airy, NC. Darren Moore couldn’t take off from work, so the band got Riley Baugus and Kevin and Trish Fore to help out. LIVELY because the Ramblers – Kenny Rorrer, Kirk Sutphin, Jeremy Stephens and Darren Moore – never cease to astonish their audiences playing unfamiliar tunes played in expected ways, playing familiar tunes in unexpected ways such as adding a piano as The Hill Billies did in 1925, or playing the same song (here Alabama Gals/Round Town Gals) in different styles. REVIEWS -- “All put together, these [Kinney, Kirk, Jeremy and Darren] are four master musicians who have created a uniqued band sound in the New North Carolina Ramblers, and this is a CD chock full of a variety of old-time songs and tunes played with love and passion for the music.” Alice Gerrald, THE OLD-TIME HERALD, FEBRUARY – MARCH 2011 "This is an excellent, generous helping of old-time music by a band that takes its music seriously but still has a lot of fun in presenting it. The four who make up the band are Kinney Rorrer, Jeremy Stephens, Kirk Sutphin and Darren Moore—all well schooled in the style of Charlie Poole and other old time musicians from the Danville and Virginia/North Carolina border area that gave us a very impressive amount of great musical recordings in the 1920s and 30s. The band does not limit its repertoire to the Poole sound, but is well versed in other styles of rural music including the sounds of the Carter Family (FATE OF DEWEY LEE, WEARY PRODIGAL SON, WILL YOU MISS ME). There are 20 cuts here, in a well-produced and nicely packaged album. A fine recording by an excellent old-time band—RECOMMENDED! " Dave Freeman – County Sales "Old time string band music comes alive with this dynamic group. Starting with Flyin' Clouds & wrapping up with the Yellow Rose of Texas this project of nearly 72 min. transports you back in time when this type of music was in its hey day. The hallmarks of this project include ; superb instrumental work, excellent song selection, & great vocals. Although you may know many of the songs on this project, they may sound a little bit different due to the original source of the songs. While listening to this projects its hard not to tap your feet & sing along while this project is playing. This project is definitely "listener friendly". Whjle playing this project, I received many calls to play many of the songs again. I know I will be carrying this project with me for many months to come."
