简介
The third release from New Orleans' own Sweet Spot marked the return of saxophonist Jason Sellers and in a leading role. This was also the first all instrumental recording by Sweet Spot. Sellers jumps to the forefront leading or co-leading the melody on all nine tracks, four of which he composed. Jason dives into the funk head first with “Little Ms. Sunshine” and “Club Mozambique”. “Dichotomy” and “Song for the City” are more impressionistic works, the latter painting a beautiful homage to New Orleans. Ray Busche, co-founder, returns with five compositions. “New G’s” and “This Iz It”, dig deep into the ol’ school. “Valencia Blues” is a hard bop cut, dedicated to the property that once was his home and studio where this music was recorded. “Calling All Cars parts 1 & 2” are nods to those who have frantically hit the highways for hurricane evacuations; something the members of Sweet Spot know all too well. No one has worn more hats in Sweet Spot than co-founder Evan Ehrhardt. Ehrhardt returns to the role of holding down the bottom with his left hand. The organ thumps, screams and soothes throughout. Andreas Argenti returns behind the kit, getting a feature solo on “This Iz It”.
