Ten years ago, Khazm’s crew Cyphalliance recorded another gritty full length project at Vitamin D’s studio The Pharmacy. That album includes production by Jake One (MF Doom, De La Soul), Vitamin D (G Unit, Black Sheep) and others. With the files only recently recovered, the album Living as a MAD, with its more upbeat subject matter will debut along side Khazm’s solo project. Diaries of a MAD, brainchild of King Khazm is an experience in the crispy snares, warm kicks, and varied cadences of the true school hip hop aesthetic. The soundscapes paint a dark and thick lacquer of social commentary over a roller coaster of inner turmoil. Instead of boastful emcee smashing, suspicion, love, paranoia, bigotry, betrayal, and human frailty dot the subject matter in equal portions. Incurring a spinal injury at a young age, which left him bound to a wheel chair, King Khazm overcame cultural marginalization, the stigma of disability, to cofound Seattle’s Universal Zulu Nation chapter, 206 Zulu, MADKrew, Cyphalliance, and TV Show Hip Hop 101.
