简介

LOOKING SIDEWAYS CD REVIEW Looking Sideways, the debut release from acoustic shamen Terry Quiett and Guinn Walker proves nothing short of amazing - with Quiett's sincere and deeply penetrating emotional sensibilities and Walker's ability to blend levity and sensitivity, Looking comes across as one of those all-too-rare records that makes you think, laugh and even cry. It's also a telling sign that it's virtually impossible to isolate one song as the best on this 16-track release, though "The Ride," "Waterfall," "One Wasted Jewel" and "The Things You Do For Me" are all exemplary pieces. Quiett's "The Things You Do For Me" may, however, stand out as the favorite among fans, a gentle and well-crafted song, it's the kind of tune that everyone in the world would love if only everyone in the world could hear it. The same might also be said of Walker's "Picket Fences," or even his "Malt Beverage," far and away the lightest thing here (in terms of subject matter), but a finishing touch that makes Looking Sideways the career defining album that it is. But it's more than just the songs that shine: Walker and Quiett harmonize in a fashion that asks us to imagine that Hall and Oates had been just a little wiser to the way of the world or that Bread had more substance. Then, of course, there's Quiett's superb guitar work, which puts plenty of shredders to shame. In a perfect world, there'd be one of these albums in every home. But even if that doesn't happen Looking Sideways will remain one for the ages. - Jedd Beaudoin, F5 Voted Top 10 Local Album in 2004 for F5!
