The Lord is My Shepherd is a collection of hymns popular among LDS and other Christian congregations. Our style is one we refer to as, "Americana" or "Nostalgic, Early American." Our hope is to create a sound that takes the listener back in time. We like to arrange hymns using acoustic instruments. Sometimes we will combine octave mandolin with nylon-string guitar. Other times we will use steel-string guitar with piano and fiddle. Our use of the banjo creates a nostalgic sound that lends itself well to Christian hymns. We also like to use wind instruments like flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon. This recording also features female voices. One track, Abide With Me, is sung by 4 women in 5 languages (Danish, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and English). Another hymn, A Mother's Lullaby, is sung by a mother of 4 children (who sings lullabies to her children nightly). It is a combination of 2 "Evening Hymns." Evening hymns are a special type of Christian song. They are typically sung later in the day near sunset or before bedtime. Some evening hymns have a very "lullaby-like" quality. A Mother's Lullaby is a medley Now the Day is Over, and Softly Now the Light of Day and is very much intended as a lullaby. Our music is meant to bring a reverent, peaceful spirit into the home. We hope it will turn people's thoughts heavenward. We also hope that it will help families and individuals by providing comfort and joy to the listener.
