简介
‘All That Led Us Here’ isn’t that big of a departure from their self-titled release to be honest. In fact, opening track Silhouettes Fade is very reminiscent in tempo and feel of The Rebirth from that album. The band is still armed with a 12-string guitar, giving the track plenty of that Middle Eastern spirit that we’re used to hearing and Cregg Rondell sounds just as good as he has on previous efforts, his tone still instantly recognisable. Musically the band is still striking a good balance between head-bobbing early 2001 styled metal rhythms and uplifting melodic passages. The band plays to their strengths throughout this release and they do it well. But I suppose that’s my main grumble with this album, as good as these songs are, they sound a bit stuck in the past. There is no doubt the band can play and they have perfected the art of writing this style of music, but I feel like they are playing it a little too safe. Their self-titled release came out 13 years ago, but ‘All That Led Us Here’ could have easily been released the year after and no one would have batted an eyelid, because the style of these tracks fit that time period perfectly. Fast forward to 2014 however and they feel somewhat outdated.
