Rothwell and Moffatt are quickly becoming one of the darlings of the Canadian music scene. The bands ability to transcend styles and genres is undeniable. Audiences love them for their wide, cross-generational appeal and the bands shows are regularly made up of audiences from all-ages. Wonder Away beautifully captures that part of Rothwell ad Moffatt. Originally conceived as a children’s project, as the band immersed itself in writing and selecting material for the album, it became readily apparent that it was in fact a collection of songs that were more appropriate for the entire family. If there’s a silver thread that runs through Wonder Away, it is the unique opportunity for adults, parents and children to enjoy this musical experience together. Stephanie, Emily and Jeff have over 10 years of experience as musicians and friends. They share common musical ground and a passion for music that is apparent to those who have seen them perform over the years. With Wonder Away, the band sorted through their vast songbook and breathed life into some old favourites. The album opens with the title track, an ode to imagination and freedom and sets the tone for the entire album. Upbeat tracks like Free to Be...You and Me get your feet tapping and sing-along songs like Morningtown Ride and Pearly Shells will put a smile on your face. There’s a few other gems here that are ready to explore, but the closing track, Linger, is a song about timelessness and the melancholy of saying goodbye....until next time.
