简介
UK blues rock vocalist and guitarist Topley got his start in the early 90s with rock band the Blessing, before launching a solo career several years later in the decade. The Blessing was known for its mixture of styles such as delta blues, reggae, and even gospel, but despite its interesting musical formula, the band split up after only a single album was issued, 1991's Prince Of The Deep Water (a sophomore outing that was produced by Jimmy Miller and finished just prior to their split, Locusts & Wild Honey, was shelved at first). It took several years before Topley reappeared once more, but by 1997, he had signed a solo deal with PolyGram Records, and issued his debut, Black River. A second solo outing, Mixed Blessing, was issued a year later, an album which collected several re-recorded versions of the Blessing songs (as well as a few all-new tracks), as Topley was joined for the proceedings by guitarist/songwriter Dominic Miller. Topley's third release, Spanish Wells, saw him delving into folk and Americana, moving away from the country soul stylings of his previous release. His first release of the new millennium, 2002's Feasting With Panthers, introduced reggae and Cuban sounds into the mix.
