THE OCEAN FLOATERS CD REVIEW Article By Jeremy Garner Peter Dizozza, a creative musician/artist from New York, has very recently putout a new CD entitled “The Ocean Floaters”.For those who might not be familiar with Dizozza, let it suffice to say that he is one of the most original, unique and expressive musicians of our time, who has the rare ability to express himself with absolute childlike freedom. It is evident that he has no fear of opinion or boundaries and it is this very individuality that has allowed him to explore music at a level that transcends what we are generally used to hearing. His music has the ability to take us to other worlds and magical scenes, as though little pieces hidden within his songs were transmitted from alternative dimensions. Dizozza’s new CD “The Ocean Floaters” is a perfect example of his ability to transport us to his own creative universe. From the very first track “Floating Theme Song” the listener is immediatelydrawn into an alternative reality, by an introduction that calls to your soul while at the same time preparing you for the madness that is about to begin…Without further warning you suddenly find yourself immersed in his emotive skills as a pianist, and summoning imagery in your mind of floating out at sea.It is at this point the journey really begins…With several time signature changes, you soon find yourself on a wonderful musical adventure…and any troubles, or worries you previously had are all washed away as your mind is taken further into the magical world of Dizozza. The third track “Smile Pretty Girl” really showcases Peter’s original vocal abilities, and you can really hear his character and personality expressed in this track. Again, it has a sound that is so distant to the world we are used to.Perhaps one of the most beautiful tracks on the album is the song “Fainting(precipice view)”. It is a very catchy piece that will immediately make you want to join in, and contains a sense of unity and peace that remains with you long after the song is finished. There is great emotion expressed in this song, with warm strings and expressive back up vocals, all of which grow on you the more the song unfolds…It is as though Peter is painting a picture and the colours become crystal clear as the musical painting is formed in your imagination.“Scary World” is one of Dizozza’s strongest points on the album. His talent as a songwriter is really made clear in this track and the rhythm of his vocals over the music is completely original, taking us where we have never been before…Towards the end it really seems that the piano begins to take on a life of its own and speaks through the incomparable and universal language of music.“If I Ever” features a very unique and experimental vocal technique during the introduction which seem to be a part of the beat itself and is well worth hearing. All of this enters into the subconscious and tangles you deeper in the spell that is being woven…while the constant imagery of floating out at sea creates a relaxing and hypnotic atmosphere which leaves you temporarily detached from the world you knew. There is a beautiful key change in this song which uplifts you on a spiritual level and continues taking you higher, until you begin to really find yourself inthe music. “Watch For Tomorrow” demonstrates Peter’s experience in the theatre and reveals his originality as he spins a wonderful twist of the words“Do Re Mi Fa So La Te”.“Glowing Home”, one of the final tracks, might be one of the most personal and intimate songs, and although it is fast paced and sounds light-hearted at first, it leaves you with a haunting state of melancholy - perhaps due to the beautiful chorus…or the ghost like female vocals that are contributed. One can almost begin to imagine Jim Morrison of The Doors performing this song…and it is certainly the strongest point for Dizozza’s vocals also. The final song “Wake Out” slowly lulls you back into reality…but something seems to have changed with your surroundings…Has reality changed or is it just you?Perhaps it has something to do with the journey you have just undertaken…Original, expressive and full of new emotions…this CD is well worth a listen.Join Dizozza and “The Ocean Floaters” and experience the journey for yourself by purchasing the album (here).
