简介
This project began back at the later stages of 2005 with the first meeting of singer/songwriter, Laura Wood and bass player extraordinaire, Jeffrey Bax. The two of them spent many long hours working together, taking ideas and playing around with them until they finally settled on 10 songs that they wanted to record for this album. Up until that point there had only been the 2 of them, so Jeffrey called on his long time friend and guitarist Brian Quite, who was more than happy to join the two of them. Keeping it real and alive was of the utmost importance so with only a handful of rehearsals under their belts they went into the studio to record. As for the drumming … well Jeffrey is also an accomplished drummer, although that did mean recording with no bass initially! Raysland Studio is a privately owned recording studio; based just outside of Rotterdam, in Rhoon. In just two long days the recording was completed. As with all things wonderous, not everything went according to plan and the independent engineer we booked to do the recordings was sadly more talk than ability [it's a shame we didn't use the inhouse engineers at Raysland! … that being said, there was neither enough time or money to re-do the recording, so after many difficult hours of editing the individual tracks were finally ready to be professionally mixed. The key word here is PROFESSIONALLY … Initially Andre Lagaris was contacted to see how his style of mixing would work on the album … the results of that first song he mixed were enough for Laura and Jeffrey and Andre undertook the entire project. Not only did he do an amazing job of the mixing and production of the tracks he also added keys to the songs, which took the whole thing to a new level. This entire project has taken nearly two years to complete … but it has been time well invested … just listen for yourself … I dare you to disagree! LAURAS' PERSONAL VIEW OF THE ALBUM ... “This was something I have wanted to do for so long now, and it always seemed to be something just out of reach, until I met Jeffrey, who was, and is, the perfect musical partner for me to work with! We didn’t really start out with the intention of creating a whole album, but once we got going there were just too many songs that we both felt were more than worthy of recording. It wasn’t until I had the first ‘draft’ copy of the album (by which I mean just our song demos) that I realized just how close and personal this album had become. I had always been a little reserved with my lyrics, never really wanted to expose too much of myself in my words. But having worked with the acoustic duo, performing mainly covers of artists whose work I admired, I suddenly realized I was happy to sing extremely up close and personal lyrics from other people, so what was my problem with writing them my self! With that thought in my head I just let my self write… Another thing that I’m really pleased about when I listen to the album is the variety in the songs … no two songs are the same, something so many albums out there can be guilty of, variety is the spice of life, so why not include that in music! I am proud of what Jeffrey and I have achieved with this album and am truly blown away when I hear the work that everyone involved has put in to make it what it is! Music, for me, is about emotion, feelings, reaching out and making people listen and believe … I can honestly say I think we have accomplished what we set out to do, and that was to make an album we were proud to put our names to …”
