Child in Me, the studio album of original contemporary art song by composer Ken Habib, culminates two decades of work with an exploration of life, longing, relationship, and passage from season to season. The 16 songs on the album comprise two cycles or suites of eight songs each. Child in Me takes its name from the opening song of the first suite, Freedom Songs. In addition to being the composer, Ken Habib is the poet of the eight pieces that he set to music for Freedom Songs and that are selected from over a wide span of his career. The second half of the album is Poems of E. E. Cummings, a song cycle of poetry similarly selected from across the career of the celebrated poet. The songs of each suite form four pairs (1–2, 3–4, 5–6, and 7–8) that by design can be performed in different configurations. The album features Katherine Arthur on soprano vocals and Susan Azaret Davies on collaborative piano. Recorded at Sutton Sound, the audio production and graphic design are by Ken Habib.
