"Broken", (dubstep), "Scarborough Fair (A True Dub of Mine), "Allelujah" ------ The music of shinjuku ZULU conjures images of neon-lit African warriors sprinting through the streets of downtown Tokyo; of mosques rising high as skyscrapers in 22nd century New York; of ravers dervishing to ecstasy in Machu Picchu; of rastas broadcasting dub symphonies from the moon... The shinjuku ZULU cd cohesively covers a range of uptempo and downtempo styles of pop electronica, from the dance club and radio-friendly 'That Groove', to the dance/breakbeat and African chants of 'Segue', to the beautiful ambient acapella 'Sweetness Likes the Reverb'. Kirby Ian Andersen, the man behind shinjuku ZULU, has mixed the experiences of living in Tokyo, L.A. and Toronto and traveling throughout the world into music that he describes as 'Somewhere between Lisa Gerrard and Timbaland.' He comes from a visual arts background, creating remixable paintings that, like the music, have technological and tribal themes. "That Groove", "Cyclamen", "Behemoth" and other tracks have been used in various tv and film productions airing on MTV, CBS, the WB, etc. "Segue" appears on "Resurrecting the Champ" soundtrack (starring Samuel Jackson), incorrectly stated as 'Shinzuku Zulu" instead of Shinjuku Zulu.
