A 19-year-old native of Freedom, Pa., Christian Beck is an up-and-coming country music vocalist who wows audiences with his hard-driving mix of country and classic rock. A prominent Pittsburgh-area music critic noted the "rugged maturity to (Beck's) voice that’s uncommon for someone just 19 years old," and compared him to Jason Aldean. Christian's voice also is compared to Bob Seger and Gregg Allman, and he is tremendously honored by those comparisons. Christian won the 2012 Rocket To The Stars competition, a vocal talent contest encompassing Western Pennsylvania and Ohio. His performances in the competition final in July 2012 electrified an audience estimated at 30,000 and were broadcast on local country radio throughout the region. Audience member text message voting made up half of the contest and Christian proved to be a major fan favorite, taking home the $10,000 grand prize. Christian used the prize money to fund the recording and production of his first EP, Dirt. Recorded at the Chip Martin Productions studio in Nashville, Dirt is inspired by Christian’s life growing up in a small industrial town in Western Pennsylvania. Tracks include: “Country As Dirt”: Written by L. Flowers, D. Dern and K. Manna, “Country As Dirt” is an up-tempo tribute to country pride with an infectious chorus and catchy extended outro. The song’s lyrics relate the word “dirt” to many aspects of life in the country and small towns. It inspired the title of Christian’s EP. “Let Me Be the Man”: Pittsburgh-area songwriter, musician and well-known vocal coach Joshua Jones penned “Let Me Be the Man.” The song captures what it is like to love a strong, independent woman who needs her space but also needs her man. “Backwards”: Written by L. Levelle and B. DiLuigi, “Backwards” is an ode to simpler times, an appreciation for things country, slower, and a little old fashioned. The proceeds from Dirt will fund Christian’s first full-length album, targeted for release in late 2013 or early 2014. In addition, Christian will launch a Kickstarter project to generate crowd-sourced funding of the album.
