简介

About the songs 1. Rock My Soul- This song captures the energy of the conga line which seemed to follow us around all summer. The style of the song is actually most similar to a West African folk song. The combination of simple music, ideas, and a great beat make this one of the most fun songs on the album. 2. Two Chords and the Truth- This tune is a reply to an often quoted remark about country songs to the effect that a great country song is three chords and the truth. It was written and recorded in a matter of about 15 minutes. A fun little ditty! 3. August Nights- This tune originally featured a large thunderstorm created digitally! It was written on the keyboard and later recorded using uke and drum. The final version is a smoldering latin jam that captures the essence of a hot August night dancefloor scene. 4. Go With The Flow- This tune started with a lyric and later the melody and was composed on the ukulele. The lyrics reflect our general approach to music and life. This tune also features a great drum only ending! 5. Fukey- What can we say? This is some seriously FUNKY UKULELE! 6. Sunday Moon- This is a tribute to the great Hawaiian ukulele player Peter Moon and his group The Sunday Manoa whose amazing 1971 recording of the traditional Hawaiian song “Kawika” (name chant for King Kalakaua) revolutionized the sound of hawaiian music. Our song, Sunday Moon, features a similar melody with our own powerful take on modern ukulele performance. 7. The Common Violet- This song is a nod to ‘Scarlet Begonias’ by the Grateful Dead and also the state flower of New Jersey. One of the few tracks that features additional instruments in this case electric piano! 8. Summer Sun- This is a country-fried stomper that features a frailing ukulele and blazing fast, bluegrass style tempo and drumming. 9. From The Mountains (You can see the sea)- This was the first tune Uke & Drum wrote and it came to life during the recording process with the addition of a ultra-happy middle section that transformed the song into something really special. This is also Drum’s favorite track! 10. Refugee- This tune was written as a response to the devastation of Hurricane Sandy which forced hundreds of people to flee from their homes following the intense flooding of the New Jersey barrier islands. This is a tribute to the resilience of the people affected by the storm and all people forced to flee from their homes around the world each year due to human violence and natural disasters. 11. Sha La La- As the title implies this song was originally a vocal melody that eventually became an instrumental. It has a great balance of mellow vibes and upbeat tempo and is DC’s favorite tune from the sessions and most likely to be heard on the weather channel local on the 8’s. 12. Hard To Tell- This tune was also originally a poem that became a little instrumental ditty and holds the distinction for being the shortest song on the album. 13. Hey Walk On- This song is a departure from the rest due to it’s ultra low key style and lyrics. A quiet thank you to all our friends and family for the love and support they give us and a reminder to keep moving forward no matter what happens in life. About the recording process After a long fun summer playing music up and down the Jersey Shore we were excited to take some time off to record the musical ideas that we had come up with during our live show jams and time driving from gig to gig. What started out as a short EP quickly escalated to a full album once we started recording our ideas. We started in September with some basic demo recordings and then began the process of arranging and getting just the right sound from the room and our equipment. The album also features many brand new songs written in the studio including the title track “Go With The Flow”, “The Common Violet” and others that were developed at live shows like “Rock My Soul.” The complete process took several months beginning in late September of 2013 and finishing in early January 2014. We decided to record in our own practice studio to take advantage of the unique acoustics in the 100+ year old house. The process started with uke, then drum, then vocals. We were most interested in capturing the energy and emotion of each song rather than a sanitized, “perfect” recording. The equipment we used for recording was a combination of gear we had that survived the flooding of hurricane Sandy including a Behringer B2 large diaphragm microphone and four track Lexicon Omega in addition to our road gear like drum mics and the electric ukulele rig. The songs were recorded using a Mac laptop and Garageband software. The B2 mic was used for all vocals and some of the ukulele as well. Most of the ukulele was recorded direct, due to the quiet nature of the instrument and relatively loud environment and the drum was recorded using three mics: room, top, and bottom which were mixed into a single drum sound. Special Thanks to: Kelly, Michele, Cory, Frankie, Deano, Chef Mike’s ABG, Asbury Park Boardwalk and Beach Bar, Edgar’s Pub Manasquan, all our friends, and a very special thanks to our fans for coming to the shows and buying our music and sharing so many fun times together! See you soon! Instruments and Equipment DC plays a Cordoba Tenor Ukulele and uses Boss digital effects and Carvin amps.
