简介
Laura Day Bio Laura Day is a richly vibrant musician who draws inspiration from the convergence of rock, jazz, and country influences. Her beguiling cross-genre approach is held together by a uniquely feminine sound. She showcases her eclectic roots and her promise as a solo artist in her debut EP, It's You, due out August 15th, 2005 on her own label, Stratess, Inc. Navigating a sea of emotions with lyrical grace and playful melodic sophistication, Day is simultaneously vulnerable, smart, and sexy. The songs on It's You offer intimate takes on love, lust, and life, turning Day's heartfelt views on these universal topics into small folk-pop gems. Incorporating beautiful natural imagery and a plaintive candor, her lyrics are personal and often refreshingly plainspoken. Day complements her words with compelling folk-tinged melodies that both command attention and allow space for her lyrics to grab the listener. The songs on It's You will draw obvious comparisons to modern folk-pop masters such as Dar Williams, Nanci Griffiths and Lucy Kaplansky. Hearing Day's breathy, lilting delivery, listeners will not find it surprising to learn that Day lists Joni Mitchell as one of her earliest, deepest influences - she even taught herself guitar by playing along to the legendary artists' LPs, which accounts for Day's work in alternate tunings -- but she also counts rockers Nancy Wilson and Bonnie Raitt as significant role models. She admires these influential women for their integrity and independence, and most importantly, for proving that women can play music. Day views her own music as an ultimate expression of her lifelong goal to play and record her original songs. After a series of stints with cover bands and small projects, It's You is a solid manifestation of the artist coming into her own musically. For the first time in her career, she has control of the reigns, and she's determined to ride this pony home. She's in control, she's independent, and she's put forth a singular solo debut.
