简介
Nominated for a Juno (Canadian equivalent to a Grammy) and winning a coveted Gold Parent Choice Award, this album is proving to be a classic for children and parents alike! "This album proves that utterly simple can be utterly charming. Singer song-writer Jennifer Gasoi has a lovely supple voice, as unaffected as her lyrics and just as engaging. One song invites children to "Pop!" like a piece of popcorn; another offers to share a dreamy piece of "Moon Pie." Instrumentation is simple, acoustic, and totally appropriate. This whole production is a small gem whose seemingly simple perfection belies the hard work required to reach that level of effortless sophistication." -Kristi Jemtegaard ©2004 Parents' Choice Award-winning singer/songwriter Jennifer Gasoi is quickly making a name for herself in the world of children's music. Jennifer has a unique gift for writing and performing upbeat, intelligent, jazz-based children's songs that adults love too. The lyrics are clever, the melodies catchy, and the rhythms undeniably danceable. Since releasing "Songs for You", the response to Jennifer's music has been extraordinary from kids and adults alike. Jennifer's debut CD was recently awarded a coveted 2004 Gold Parent's Choice Award. On July 3, 2004 CBC's Definitely Not the Opera featured a countdown of the fan's top music choices, and Jennifer's song "Butterfly" took the #1 spot. (CBC is Canada's national public radio station) "...seems there's a huge appetite out there for intelligent creative music aimed at kids." -Sook Yin Lee, CBC Radio Jennifer's musical talent became apparent at the age of 4. She was shopping in a local toy store with her mom when she spotted a toy piano. Although it was the first time she had ever touched a piano she was able to play her favourite songs by ear. Her natural affinity for music led her to study classical piano for 12 years and later study jazz voice, piano and composition. Jennifer launched her professional music career singing jazz alongside piano legend Linton Garner, and went on to perform at the 1999, 2000 and 2001 Vancouver Jazz Festivals. In 2002 Jennifer had the sudden urge to move from Vancouver to Montreal, Canada. Montreal seemed like the perfect place to perform, write, and connect with a rich and diverse group of musicians and artists. Her instincts served her well. Within days of her arrival, she was struck with the inspiration to write children's music. The process was effortless; the songs were writing themselves! Jennifer's experience as a jazz musician, coupled with 15 years experience working with children (as a piano teacher, day camp leader, and music specialist in daycares) was finally coming together. Music and lyrics flowed from her pen and a dream was born. The dream: to produce high quality, intelligent, uplifting jazz based music and live shows for all ages. And to do it all independently under her own company - "Sparkling Productions." So, with the help of investors and significant awards (the Canada Council for the Arts and The Mayor's Foundation of Montreal), Jennifer set out to record and self-produce a full-length album. At Piccolo Studio, one of Canada's finest recording facilities, Jennifer assembled 12 of Montreal's best musicians to come up with a true gem. Jennifer is passionate about living life to the fullest. Through her music, she hopes to inspire kids (and their parents!) to live from the heart, and follow their dreams.
