Thando Mtyhobile Music Biography “ Cape Town is known for its beautiful scenery, pristine beaches and Table Mountain . The music scene is just as interesting. Now and again Cape Town comes up with refreshing sounds that can’t be ignored. The band Freshly Ground is one example and now there’s another gem in Thando Mtyhobile.” This statement appeared in the August 2005 “ Cape Argus ” regarding Thando’s debut album “Thando’s Introduction.” It is one of many great reviews that Thando enjoyed and the music accolades continue for Thando. Thando Mtyhobile hails from Kayamandi, Stellenbosch , South Africa . He started singing at the early age of 7 years in 1992. In 1999 Thando formed an acapella group called Peace Lovers Brothers and performed in the Western Cape region of South Africa . In 2004 his passion for music led him to share his music experience with a group of orphans called the the Kuyasa Kids. He stepped in and began to direct the music and choreograph their dance routines. Thando and the Kuyasa Kids made headlines when they performed with Switchfoot, a well known rock band from the United States . The show was a sell out with two thousand people attending. Thando also had an opportunity to record a song with Switchfoot called Mother Africa which was to be a part of his second album. “That was one of the highlights of my music career,” says the young musician. In 2005 Thando and the Kuyasa Kids toured in the United States performing in churches and raising funds for orphans in Africa . In the same year, Thando released his album “Thando’s Introduction” with Merchant Records. It did not take long for this young musician, producer and song writer to take his next step which was to start his own music company. In 2006 he established Sisonke Music Productions and released his second album “Shadow Proves the Sunshine.” Thando’s vision and mission is to share his life story with others and inspire young Africans to pursue their dreams. He wants to encourage young people who have lived in poverty to not be discouraged but to go after what they want to achieve in life. He also plans on mentoring young artist in Kayamandi and helping them get started with their music careers. His message to the youth of Africa is “We can not change our past but we can create a brighter future for our self and in that way, we won’t have to blame any one for the way things are in our lives”. What is “Thando Mthobile” up too for 2009? It is that time of the year where by I have to start working on a new project. I am now busy working on my third album which is untitled at the moment. On this project I am working with some of the big names in South Africa, they are “Veli Soulstar” who in his own right has done a lot in the music industry as an artist, sound engineer and a music producer. The other one is “Dj Makhekhe” who has taken the South African house music industry by storm also as a Dj, sound engineer and a music producer. I would like to thank all my internet fans especially the once who take the time to listen and buy my music, you have gave me the strength to go on and work on another album. The album is expected to be released later this year reason being, I want to take my time with every song to make sure that I give my fans the best of me.
