"A Very Threadhead Holiday" began, like most Threadhead ideas, with someone saying, "Wouldn't it be fun if we..." In less than three weeks, artists who have already released records or have upcoming releases on THR agreed to write, arrange and record songs for “A Very Threadhead Holiday.” Paul Sanchez, the first artist to work with THR, was asked to produce the record. Paul says, "We had very little time and dollars were tight, so I assembled a band of THR musicians to be the "house band" for the sessions. I knew most of them from the last few years of playing with The Rolling Road Show and knew they could deliver on the many different styles of songs we were to be recording." Demos were quickly assembled and song writing sessions were held between gigs, babysitters and paying bills. The band learned the songs via MP3s of the demos and, in many cases, Alex McMurray and Russ Broussard worked out arrangements in the studio. Knowing time was of the essence, trombonist extraordinaire and Bonerama member Craig Klein suggested that Paul get Matt Perrine to write horn arrangements for the songs that needed them. Matt jumped at the chance and wrote wonderful arrangements which complimented and enhanced each song. Susan Cowsill, Debbie Davis, Margie Perez and Ingrid Lucia lent their beautiful voices, not just to their own tunes, but to several songs on the record. Shamarr Allen played the trumpet on a number of songs like only he can. The wonderful New Orleans jazz singer, John Boutte', delivered the simple elegance of his voice accompanied by just an acoustic guitar. Glen David Andrews unleashed an otherworldly blues shout on his track "Santa Got High For Christmas". Mary Lasseigne, former bass player for 90's New Orleans rock band, Cowboy Mouth, delivered pure pop with a attitude and a horn line to boot. Alex McMurray delivered his usual sideways slant on life in his song as well as his guitar playing on almost every track on the record. Going effortlessly from blues to jazz to flat out rocking, he played every style thrown at him and still sounded like Alex on every track. The record became not a compilation but a collaboration. Thirteen artists came together, writing, playing, singing and arranging each other's songs to create something unique yet familiar at the same time. The New Orleans known by people around the world is one of community. This record is that spirit set to music: The community of Threadhead Records artists of varying styles, personalities and talents coming together to help keep New Orleans music flowing into the world with “A Very Threadhead Holiday.”
