John Francis Carroll is a solo acoustic instrumental guitarist/composer from Melbourne, Australia Following in the tradition of acoustic fingerstyle guitarists such as John Fahey, Bert Jansch and Davey Graham. Carroll has been honing his craft playing residencies at Strangeloves Wine Bar, Carino Spanish Tapas Bar and busking at the Deli Lane in the Queen Victoria Market on the weekends. “I write music with strong melodies that are good listening to while driving the car or relaxing at home. But I stay clear of being a 'guitarist's guitarist' i.e overly technical. My heroes are the great blues acoustic guitarists like Lightning Hopkins and Skip James- with completely natural feel and they're unique aswell. "I write instrumentals using various open tunings on the guitar, and I also make my own arrangements of popular songs such as Frere Jaques, London Bridge, I've even adapted a Russian Hurdy Gurdy folk song! But most of my music is influenced by Irish, Celtic, Flamenco and the acoustic side of bands like Led Zeppelin and James Blackshaw has become a major influence aswell. John's latest CD- Deli Lane, is a collection of the most popular songs played while busking at the Vic Market. It features mainly original compositions and music from Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and Ry Cooder.
