Brent Wilson and Katelyn Hobson have spent countless hours as solo artists honing their craft and building careers, but, together, they have discovered a style of music that opens a window into their hearts and who they are…a powerful combination of genres with down to earth writing and nods to the various styles of music they grew up listening to. Brent & Kate are individually talented singer/songwriters who are able to bridge their very different sounds to create a new and fresh experience for their audiences. Getting to know Brent & Kate requires taking you on journey of their past, to their present and, finally, a look at their dreams for the future. Their journey both started very young and the experiences that they amounted shape their drive and overall approach. They have spent countless hours on stage, crafting new material, and creating their solo sounds in studios. To understand Brent & Kate as a duo, it helps to understand these two talented individuals. Brent Wilson has never met a stranger on stage or off and always approaches every performance with enthusiasm. Having started singing in church at a young age, Brent has spent time traveling around the country performing everywhere from Salt Lake City and Branson, MO., to the stage at the legendary Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue in Arlington, TX. He performed with the Continental Singers, a national touring ensemble, where he honed his craft performing all types of music to packed venues from California to New York. Brent also has plenty of experience in front of the television camera after co-hosting a gospel talent competition called “Inspire the Desire” for over a year on PAX in Houston, TX. He performed over 200 shows while studying telecommunications as part of Texas A&M University’s Class of 2007. Brent has been a worship leader at Fellowship Church in College Station, TX since 2006. He released his first album of completely original music in 2012 titled “Deconstructed”. This album was a small glimpse into Brent’s soul and the personal experiences that fueled his creativity, reaching audiences with catchy pop hooks and infectious melodies. Katelyn Hobson’s story also begins singing in church and really gets its start at age 9, where she began taking her music seriously as a part of a couple of variety groups and a trio named Triplicity. At age 13, she began playing music on her own and touring across the country and playing venues such as Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue and the Bluebird Café in Nashville. She has performed for Presidents, politicians, and major label recording artists but, as an “Army Brat,” she always felt most at home singing for our nation’s soldiers. She released her first full-length album in 2006, titled “ Get Lost With You”. A nod to the more traditional sounds of Country, it not only debuted Katelyn’s writing skills, but it also featured several tunes from seasoned songwriters in both the DFW and Nashville areas. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 2010, where she really focused on her writing under the guidance of seasoned Nashville songwriters, and continues to fuel her desire to learn, most recently by becoming a Licensed Paramedic. Add these two accomplished solo artists together with influences ranging from The Civil Wars and Lady Antebellum to Sara Bareilles and Andy Grammar and the result is Brent & Kate. Together, they combine their experiences in both business and life, proving that they have a lot to say with their music. Their overall style is organic and genuine and their vocals melt together just as naturally, with harmonies like butter and creative melodies crafted specifically to get in your head. Perhaps the most important aspect is their writing. Blending technicality with freedom and honesty, they write with precision and purpose while still maintaining the realness of the stories that inspire their music. Brent & Kate have only been a duo since July 2014 and have seen success already. They have played for audiences all over Texas and have been lucky enough to play popular venues and events such as the Houston Marathon, Hard Rock Café of Dallas and the legendary White Elephant Saloon. They are currently working on an EP of material that they have written over the last 2 years and are preparing to release their first single in the coming months. Brent & Kate are ready and eager to share their sound with audiences everywhere and are certainly willing to prove that they are the duo to watch.
