My music is written from a real place, but a place I try to keep inherently distant. No one wants to hear another break up song, So what I try to do in my music (with varying degrees of success) is separate my feelings from the events. For example, the song "Saturday Night" is about making a bad decision at a party, when the inspiration for it actually came from a break up. I try to keep myself challenged with my song writing, and I hope you can tell when you listen to it!
