Rare Diagram is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist and rock polyglot Justin Chase. Born in a tiny town and raised by two classical musicians, his awareness of the canon of pop and rock music was limited. Chase funneled his rural boredom into jazz and classical piano practice until, at fifteen, he discovered the modern-day classics (OK Computer, Loveless, The White Album). Inspired by how his knowledge of music theory could be used in the realm of rock, Chase started writing. The result is a sincere mixture of classic songwriting, harmonic sophistication sourced from jazz and prog, and arrangements that include symphonic flourishes. Rare Diagram was formed in Portland, OR to support Justin Chase's 2014 debut EP, On The Beach. They quickly gained a reputation for energetic, loud shows that contrasted with the minimal glitch-folk of the recorded material. Secret Shot combines Chase's idiosyncratic songwriting style and detailed production with the hard-hitting live band.
