Recorded in Denmark during 2002 and 2003 live concerts (mostly, though not wholly, in Copenhagen), this has the early 21st century incarnation of Savage Rose presenting songs spanning most of their career, with only singer Annisette and organist-pianist-accordionist Thomas Koppel remaining from their early days. About half of the material comes from the three 1995-2001 albums, though a few songs -- "Wild Child," "Revival Day," "Ain't My Baby Beautiful" -- go back to their early-'70s work. Filled out by various additional, competent instrumentalists and backup vocalists, it's a set of eclectically soulful, if somewhat low-key, contemporary rock. The most praiseworthy and distinctive aspect is the singing of Annisette -- a raspy, wide-ranging instrument that has lost little if any of its power, and none of its idiosyncrasies over the years. While this doesn't possess much of the art rock adventurousness that characterized the music that's best known to listeners outside of the and's native Denmark, they do use some reggae, world music and gospel accents, as well as delivering a cover of Edwin Starr's classic protest song "War."
