简介
Hailed as the "God of the Indian Violin" and "The Emperor of the Violin", L Subramaniam is the creator of the global fusion idiom, apart from being a highly accomplished South Indian classical musician and orchestral composer. In 1973 he joined CalArts to do a master's degree in Western classical composition. Even as a student there he began experimenting with different musical forms. Within a few years, he recorded his first fusion album, Garland and soon began composing Western classical symphonies and concertos. Over the years, he has recorded and composed over a hundred albums collaborating with some of the greatest musicians of all times from Lord Yehudi Menuhin to Herbie Hancock. His earlier film credits include Salaam Bombay (Mira Nair) and Mississippi Masala (Mira Nair, lead actor Denzel Washington) and he was a featured soloist for Bernardo Bertolucci's Little Buddha (Keanu Reeves), Baraka and Merchant Ivory's Cotton Mary. Gour Hari Dastaan is based on the true story of the struggle of an Indian freedom fighter to gain recognition from the Indian government. Directed by Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, the films lead actors are Vinay Pathak, Konkona Sen Sharma and Ranvir Shorey.
