And every sound that comes out is a reflection of the energies that she feels around her or that she feels within herself. -Juliet Reid, Flow Artist, Portland, OR Sam Rae captures the euphoria of the cello through live improvisation, exploring music as a way to interact and react in the moment. She reveals the process of creation to her audience by shaping intricate layers with her loop pedal adding deep harmonies and playful melodies to create a unique language of cello. Sam Rae graduated with a degree in Cello Performance in 2011. Her musical explorations have lead her around the west coast through Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, to Colorado and New Orleans and eventually to as far as Valparaíso and Santiago, Chile where she studied and performed. Her passions are rooted in alternative forms of collaboration and communication as she explores music as a universal language wherever she travels. On February 15, 2014 Sam Rae recorded a live and improvised studio concert at Wind Over the Earth in Boulder, Colorado. The album, 'Stories From the Marrow,' is a collection of songs from that performance. As her music is dependent on the atmosphere, audience and sentiments she wishes to relay musically in any particular moment this album was inspired by her fresh explorations into the marrow of herself and the weight and freedom that comes with. Her intention is always to provide listeners with an opportunity to find their own language within the sounds of the cello and depth of each moment.
