He is nervous, feels small, and knows that even with a life of follies that he can get this one thing right. The music to the song was originally written in an acoustic form. Then a revamp of the song led it in an upbeat slow rock song. Finally, during the final recording process and with the melodic sense of Trevor Adwell the song took a turn for the best emulating the styling of Toto, Clapton, and the "Trevor Adwell touch". The music may have changed over the years but the lyric content has not. This song is the longest run musical masterpiece by The Vanguards.
