简介

For me, 2009 could be renamed "the year I lost everything and began to live vicariously though music". I split with my long-term girlfriend, quit my job and I finished my university degree, putting me somewhere between a rock and a hard place. I'm not looking for sympathy, mind. The songs on the LP were originally written roughly a year before the four of us (being myself Casey Bourne, Liam Hoflay and Thomas Eacott) got together. I was pretty desperate. I had these perfectly formed songs but you have no idea how lifeless something can be with just a vocal line and an acoustic guitar. The whole point to this was to create music with a mind. I was reading and analysing a lot of different philosophies and gradually I felt as if my own was starting to develop. Anyway, after a year of reading Camus, listening to Jandek and realising that although my girlfriend was beautiful we really weren't getting along any more, the actual philosophy of these songs became clear to me. The exact moment came when I was on an interesting substance, walking through a forest with my friend and playing the chords to "The Eternal" and singing about being happy after not being sure if I was or not. On this realisation, I called up Casey and begged her to weave her beauty into the songs. She has the unadulterated voice of silver and her violin in "Cheatin' What Needs To Be Cheated" reminds me of a derailing train. She, of course, couldn't wait to be apart of this (her unfaltering enthusiasm amazes me) and we were set, kind of. Finding a drummer was always a problem for me and the main reason why I hadn't done this before, but Thomas Eacott of local band Rusty Strings was ready for this kind of challenge. Old friend Liam completed the line-up and we went into the practice room of the radio station I volunteer for. All it took was two full band practices and one without Tom and we were ready. Yeah, seriously. We enlisted the help of engineer Ben Newell (extremely professional for someone who got paid in food and drink) and we recorded the whole thing in about ten hours. There were a few hiccups but the first track was the only one that was recorded in more than three takes. It really is as lo-fi as it comes and damn, I am proud of that. We went into the DIY studio on August 31st 2009 and on July 18th 2010, my 22nd birthday, it shall be released. I can't really express how much fun I had making this CD and I genuinely hope that it comes across. All I can say now is thank you and I hope you 'get it'.
