简介

Songwriter, singer, musician and producer David Vidal credits much of his musical influences to Route 66, the American Mother Road that runs from Chicago to Los Angeles. Born in the high desert town of Gallup, New Mexico (mentioned in the famed Bobby Troupe song) and raised in various locales throughout the American Southwest and Rocky Mountains (Pagosa Springs, Colorado… Hachiti, New Mexico… Denver, Albuquerque, Phoenix, etc.) Vidal’s music evokes the loneliness, hope, heartbreak and humor of the wide open highway, where you can see for a hundred miles, yet never know what to expect around the next turn. Heavily influenced by the music of New Orleans and the Deep South, Vidal is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist. Through the years he has worked with an eclectic blend of talented folks including Gene Clark, Joe Walsh, Vince Gill and members of Little Feat. He also co-produced and played guitar and lap steel on the critically acclaimed album “West of Detroit” by rock/blues vocalist Laura Creamer, currently on tour with Bob Seger. Known for his gritty vocal interpretations of blues and Americana classics as well as his own heartfelt, poignant and occasionally quirky original compositions, Vidal’s performances are earthy and in the moment, guaranteed to take unexpected turns off the main highway. He has had songs in numerous movies and television shows, including Avalanche, the Oscar winning My Cousin Vinny and the hit series Friday Night Lights. Nasty Habit, a 13 song compilation recorded in 2006, is a stripped down acoustic blues album, chock full of slide guitar and harmonica, with very eclectic overtones. It was named by members of the European press as one of the top 100 American albums of 2006. The moods vary from the down and dirty title track to the traditional sounding Apple Cart Blues and My Luck Is Going To Change, both featuring the tuba of jazz great William Roper. The lyrics vary from the reflective There Was A Time to the whimsical Paddle Boat… “gonna take my paddle boat down to the muddy river, paddle like a mutha till the sun comes up / pull off in the reeds and hang out with the ducks, if you don’t wanna be there it’s your tough luck”. Reminiscent of works by Bob Dylan, John Prine, Ry Cooder and Tom Waits, the album also features bassist David Chamberlain on several tracks. Nasty Habit was mastered by rock legend Harry Maslin, and is available exclusively at CDBaby.
