Having travelled the world with the Chieftains since 2003 Triona has become one of Irelands foremost traditional harpist. She comes from Portlaoise, Ireland where she started to play the harp at the age seven. Initially training as a classical Harpist. Her studies culminated in the post of principal harpist with the RTE Concert Orchestra in Dublin which she held for five years. In 2003 she was invited to play as guest harpist for the Chieftains. Since then she has performed solely on the Irish Harp playing with the Chieftains throughout the world including the States, Japan and Australia and many visits to Europe. As a solo performer Triona has performed in the Paraguyan International Harp Festival, The Edingburgh International Harp Festival as well as the BEO Festival in Dublin, and the 9th World Harp Congress in Dublin. As a performer with the Chieftains, Triona has worked with some of the top artists from around the world. Ry Cooder, Carlos Nunez, Moya Brennan, James Galway to name but a few. Triona has recorded with the Chieftains on numerous Albums the most recent being the San Patrico album which was released in March of 2010. In her spare time from the Chieftains,Triona works on other projects. She has recently joined forces with the renouned Scottish singer Alyth McCormack to create a captivating duo.They have just released their first Album called Red and Gold.. Triona has also worked on an ongoing project with fellow Chieftains alum, Jon Pilatzke, Cara Butler and Nathan Pilatzke. Their Band called Tread has toured extensively throughout Ireland. In 2008 they toured Japan with Anuna as well as performing in Italy and Canada. They also took part in the 2009 Blas Festival in Scotland.
