简介

Honed on a backcountry ranch where they met, married and developed their music, D-Squared’s spacious sound reflects a life lived beneath high western skies. Their music is like a drink of cool water after a long walk through the desert. Their songs are hymns to the canyons promising rain to the willows, cowboy pagan spirituals flung at the night sky like so many stars. Their latest release, The Garden Wall (2014), is a collection of fourteen all-instrumental tunes that wander down the garden path, featuring the folk harp, guitar, mandola, tenor banjo, percussion, and a saucy array of free reeds (accordion, harmonica, concertina, ….and wait for it…the Bass Accordion!). The music travels between joy and sorrow, earth and sky, day and night. Producer and long-time collaborator, Kyle Harris, has termed it:“terrathereal”. They released their first studio recording - matter of life & death (1993) - as Don Charles & Deb Gessner, and became known as D-Squared upon release of their second CD – Big Sky Full O’ Dumb Star (1997). A third recording – Accidentally Live (2006) – captured a single performance honoring the Great American Desert and sponsored by the Smithsonian. “Unusual, unclassifiable tunes keep the music haunting - familiar and avant-garde at the same time.” (Folk Harp Journal) Deb Gessner’s “faux reverent aura framed by her folk harp will trick you if you don’t pay close attention - her wondrous playing emits a gleam of humor and hope.” (Acoustic Scene) With deft harmonies, wry humor, and shining musicianship, D-Squared weaves together love & light, foolishness & pain, the impossible beauty & burden of life. D-Squared’s tunes are spirituals to the natural world, giving voice to all forms, reverence for life and appreciation of everyday things.
