Salsa Roja begins in Central America with a composition titled Tambito Josefino by multi-Grammy winning Costa Rican composer Edín Solís, featuring that country's most popular rhythm. In this instrumental piece, Rojas partners with the famed Recycled Instruments Orchestra of Cateura, named after a poor neighborhood outside of Asunción, Paraguay, where the country's largest landfill is located. Also known as the Landfill Harmonic Orchestra, the 19-member ensemble performs under the direction of master conductor and arranger Solís, who specifically arranged the piece for Rojas and the orchestra. The children, by using instruments they have built from garbage to serenade their audience, charm us with their humility, creativity and talent. The compilation's title track represents a bold attempt by Rojas to push the musical envelope. With maestro Lindsey-Clark's expertise, who wrote Salsa Roja especially for Rojas, she succeeds in adapting the sounds of an entire Latin music orchestra to a single instrument -- the guitar. The piece is just one movement in a suite titled Fiesta Americana, recorded for the first time. When asked about her new release, Rojas states: "Salsa Roja radiates energy, passion, color, nostalgia and joy; making music the path to the cultural treasures that can only be found in a place as storied and exotic as Latin America.
