简介
Deep and Wide All of creation speaks of the majesty and eminence of God. The birds of the air, the rivers and the trees are all testaments to the greatness, love and care of our Lord and Saviour. But as parents, nothing speaks more of God’s love for our very souls than the birth of a child. We stand in wonder of a precious new life entrusted by Him to us. Instinctively, every mother whispers, coos and sings to their babies. We soothe, reflect, dream and love them through our words and in early childhood. Even the sounds communicate our love for this precious gift. Babies respond to the rise and fall of speech (the musical flow) before they begin to understand linguistic content. Through this intimate musical interaction, the baby experiences being known. We improvise sounds, words and whispers shaped to intrinsically bond us to this new soul. As we listen and sing these songs that have been passed on from generation to generation, whether in our own language or in the music that emerges from our hearts, these moments help to build loving family bonds and introduce the baby to the wider world around us. As Christians, we belong to a greater family, God’s family, irrespective of our tribe, tongue, colour or creed. Deep and Wide is a collection of songs that draws parents and caregivers into reflective worship meditating on the promises and truths of our Heavenly Father. These songs have been passed on through many generations, not only in South Africa, but across the world. They continue to remind and impart God’s heart to a new generation. The sounds are gentle and intimate, heartfelt and softly sung for you to speak over your child and yourself whilst you meditate on God’s promises and love. May you be blessed as you listen to these songs of reflective worship. ------ 1. Thula Baba - Traditional (arr. Jonathan Crossley) © Public Domain Mpho Moahloli 2.
