Describing their music as Indian-jazz-trance, the Patanjali project showcases the flute and bansuri flute and boasts complex melodies, improvisations and an exalted rhythmic foundation (beat), all the while leaving room for an audience who loves to dance. On stage, their music unites both festive and classical sounds, combining Indian raga with inflections of jazz, electronic loops and a powerful rhythm section. Patanjali is a unique group whose musical aesthetic is completely grounded in the 21st century. Patanjali was founded in 2011 by Alexandre Lavoie. The virtuosity and stage presence of its founding flutist is complimented by the impressive adaptation of the jazz guitar to the stylings of raga and by the powerful grooves of the bassist and drummer.
