简介
WHEN DAVID MET DREW or HOW “DEBBIE the BLOOP” CAME TO BE: DREW “Allen” YOUNGS is a world-class composer, vocalist, and guitarist. DAVID “Alan” CASCI is a film director, screenwriter, and lyricist. David first met Drew in their Palo Alto junior high school cafeteria at the wrong end of one of Drew's spectacular pranks, which culminated in every lunch-laden table collapsing like dominoes onto the laps of the stunned student body. Years later, in the mid 90s, they were reacquainted at a film-scoring symposium and reminisced about Drew’s elaborate adolescent antics. Drew invited David to pen the lyrics for a song he had in mind about Penny Robinson’s pet alien, Debbie the Bloop, featured in the 1960’s TV series, “Lost in Space.” David had no recall of the Bloop, and there was no robust Internet to easily search such things, but Drew explained she was simply a chimp with an embarrassing prosthetic extension strapped to her head, her overdubbed alien vocalizations limited to something like: “bloop bloop.” With that minimal information / inspiration to go on, David imagined all the popular TV sweethearts of his youth, and how they all paled in comparison to Debbie the Bloop. Since David and Drew had such ridiculous fun with this first foray into musical collaboration, many fine Cohiba-and-Cognac fueled evenings on the roof of Drew’s recording studio, later, they decided to join creative forces and form the songwriting team of Alan ‘n’ Allen, playing off the similarity of their middle names. Trite, yes, but it seemed clever after a Cognac or two. That was then, and life (and the desire to make a living) has a way of getting in the way. Thus, David flew off to the Big Apple to toil amidst the latter day Mad Men creating a dotcom presence for several Fortune 100 companies, while Drew wisely stayed put in Palo Alto and became a dotcom tycoon. Fast forward to the end times. Alan ’n’ Allen, having reunited, once again, hope you get as much pleasure from listening to Debbie the Bloop as they had making it. Words and music by David Casci and Drew Youngs, composed and performed by Drew Youngs. If you’re a baby boomer, check out the nostalgic music video available for viewing on YouTube. And stay tuned for their first album, “Court Ordered Detox,” coming soon to a device near you. Thank you.
