ailing from Harare in Zimbabwe, the band’s particular style of Afro-fusion draws on modern influences whilst upholding familiar traditional rhythms. Zee toured Africa, America and Europe before relocating to the UK to form the Heritage Survival – a powerhouse of veteran performers weaving shuffling and hypnotic up-beat chimurenga songs with fast-beat sungura music into compelling, insistent dance music for fervent feet. “Our particular style of Afro-fusion draws on modern influences whilst upholding familiar traditional rhythms. I was first discovered at the age of 9 when I started working with Dr Thomas Tafirenyika Mapfumo as a multi-skilled musician playing the guitar, marimba and mbira. The early part of my career with him saw me record five albums and touring throughout Africa, Europe and North America before relocating to the UK to form the Heritage Survival Band, veteran performers all of whom have worked with some of the great names of African music.”
