Joshua Eden is launching a new full-length recording for the first time in almost a decade! He has assembled an all-star cast of 15 musicians and they have tracked 9 tunes for your listening pleasure. Joshua grew up on a tiny Maine island in a house that was often filled with artists, writers, and musicians. From the time he climbed into a tuba as a toddler, he has immersed himself in a life full of music. He has been profoundly influenced and nourished by his family’s rich musical background, which goes back generations. After studying music theory and composition in college in St. Paul, Minnesota, Joshua travelled around the world with his ears open. He returned to the States and formed his first full band, Ishai’s Story. They gained local and regional attention in and around Portland, Maine and in 2000, he released his first full-length CD, the self-titled “Ishai’s Story”. He then teamed up with The Difference, a professional rhythm section out of Portland. They performed around New England to eager fans and released their self-titled CD in the spring of 2004. Joshua has continued his musical explorations, playing shows and composing for theater and film. He has toured nationally as a solo artist. His songs have been featured in films and videos and he has also been the musical director/composer for several productions at New York City’s LaMaMa ETC (birthplace of “Hair” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”). Joshua now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area where his song “Eye of the Storm” won the West Coast Songwriter’s Song of the Year in 2008. For the past several years, the majority of his creative energy has been focused on his two (very musical) children. Now that the kids are ready to start their own band, Joshua has stepped back into the studio. For this project, he has brought in some of the Bay Area’s finest players as well as some East Coast all-stars. The sound tastes like Tom Waits, Joe Henry and The Wood Brothers wrapped in a tortilla dipped in honey and served up at the local speakeasy, delivering a feast of gritty soul that ranges from smoky blues to melancholy ballads to rowdy swing. The authentic interplay of various musicians resonates with Joshua’s deep gravelly vocals as he recounts tales of the road, drunken sailors, emancipation, love, death, promises and destiny.
