简介
Wild nights of rock n roll living and the deep pleasures of falling in love and settling down are all a part of the story on Domesticated, the new release from former Nylon and powerhouse vocalist Micah Barnes. Micah began sketching the highly confessional songs for Domesticated with his brother drummer Daniel Barnes, before Juno Award winning producer Gavin Bradley (Nelly Furtado, Tori Amos and Jane Siberry) came on board to put the final Orchestral Pop touches to the arrangements.. Together they created the lush 70's style back-up vocals, while guitarist James Bryan (The Philosopher Kings) was enlisted to complete the musical picture. Top industry engineer John Nazario (The Tea Party, Nelly Furtado) came in to record the instruments—including Rhodes, Wurlizter, glockenspiel, marimba, xylophone and timpani—at Canterbury Sound, mixing the final results at Orange Lounge. On this album, Barnes voice swings between intense passion and an intimate vulnerability on piano-driven songs that tell their true to life stories with wit, humour and raw emotion. One Last Hurrah Touring the U.S.A. with my earlier solo discs' gave me "One more round in the dirty underground" as the song says. Inspired by the wild nights in Los Angeles spent with my best friend, who always said we could get married and settle down when we are 50, I dedicate this song to those of us who have decided to enjoy life to it's fullest. Domesticated I spent a lot of years living the adolescent rock n roll dream. There has to be a compelling reason to stop right? Our title track is a love letter to the idea of romantic partnership from a newly infatuated lover. ....Let the "real life" adventures begin! My Teenage Heart Boys grow up slower. We're stupid longer. And we have to say "I'm sorry" a whole lot more. This song attempts to explain all the wreckage. .....Mea Culpa Baby. Co-written with my brother Daniel who delivered the "Philly-Soul" Bridge in literally 5 minutes flat. (Now I Know Why They Call It) Falling I never really listened to Brill Building Pop till I joined The Nylons but the boys taught me how much the melody and harmony can communicate in a song. Writing a true love song can be the hardest challenge but producer Gavin Bradley's 50's style arrangement nicely accentuates the romantic naivety and heartfelt simplicity in the lyric. Inside Out Relationships force us to confront who we really are, but of course we are rarely completely honest in them. Most of the time we perform versions of ourselves for our lovers hoping they won't see the ugly parts. This song asks the question "If I was inside out and showed you everything, would you accept and love me as I am"? .........Talk about playing a dangerous game. I'm Coming Home Most guys have to test their freedom before settling into domesticity. This soulful tune co-written with David Tyson, ("Black Velvet"), expresses that moment of discovery when a man realizes where he truly belongs. A mainstay of our Queen Street sets at The Bamboo, The Rivoli and The Horseshoe back in the day.
