Reviews: Maria Markouli (Nea Newspaper) The sound of the train as it approaches and goes away, the whistle, the rails, the road and this possessed rock 'n roll which rose them from the neighborhoods of Athens like the air rises the clouds of dust. And now Dustbowl is not one of the most hidden secrets of the music of Athens but they are the band your eyes and ears can't believe is real. JEREMY GLUCK [barracudas] Dustbowl's new album" Goin' Down" reveals the band's Dusty Desert Rock sound, mixed in their own flavor and ambiance of Alt. Country. It is an esoteric elegy of sentiments that draws us "down" with them, and signifies that the only catharsis, the one way road for Dustbowl comes from the desert sound, from the earth this time. ALTCOUNTRYFORUM.NL The album has something charming, magical [" Goin' Down" ] MIX GRILL Dustbowl created a "raw" cult aesthetics. A style that has matured very quickly with the evolution of their music in a unique Desert Rock and Alt. Country sound. Their new album "Goin 'Down" is an "internal" elegy of emotions. STEREOWORLD Panagiotis Gavrilis Dustbowl, who probably because of some cosmic error were born in Greece, when heard they bring endless trails of the American countryside to mind. Dustbowl don't just reproduce a musical style. A simple listening to their music convinces us that they experience the music which has inspired them. And I should mention the very good , without exaggeration, musicians of the band. MIX GRILL They combine tastefully and effortlessly Americana with Blues, Country , Folk and Gospel making an irresistible set of songs. Dustbowl created a "raw" cult aesthetics. TRANZISTOR Every time you listen to it, it reveals you something new, hidden secrets, roses of the desert. And if this is true, what more can you ask from them? “Dusty” music for the comrades of the chain gang & the "dust bowl" refugees! Dustbowl were formed in May of 2006 by Telecaster Nick, The Shoeshine Boy, Lydia and DD Dynamite [John Hardy joined at 2008]. After a few sessions at Nick's basement they decided to create a band. It was the birth of their "dusty" sound! ________ Dustbowl are influenced by old Country Music, Rock-A-Billy, Americana, Alt. Country and Undeground Rock music too. ________ Yet, they didn't want to just form a revival band either. Dustbowl wanted to introduce contemporary themes that people nowadays can relate to and this is how Dustbowl's unique "Freight Train Ramblin' Sound" came to be. ________ Dustbowl songs can be linked to the train's lonesome whistle, the wailing of the rails as the long black iron horse glides over them. Dustbowl is all about love lost and found, about being sorrow-bound and lonely, about livin' like a modern day "hobo"...a-driftin' and a-ramblin', about pickin' a tune with some friends... ________ Dustbowl released "Ramblin' Blues" EP in 2006 through their own Dusty Records label. The following year, the band recorded - in just four days - their debut album "Troublebound & Lonesome" which was released from On Stage Records. ________ "Troublebound & Lonesome" got raving reviews in the local and international press and combined with the band's energetic live shows has gained them a cult status and a strong following in the local underground scene. ________ The band continued to play gigs and worked on new songs with the addition of John Hardy on pedal steel guitar. After Big George's departure from vocals, Dustbowl went to the studio in May 2009 and recorded 14 new songs for their album entitled "Goin' Down" which features notable special guests such as Alex K. (The Earthbound, The Last Drive), Phil Shoenfelt (Fatal Shore, Southern Cross) and Jeremy Gluck (The Barracudas). ________ In December 2010 DD left the band and Big George came back . The band continued to play gigs constantly and recorded "Christma's Time's A-Comin'" [Nov. 2013] for Restless Wind's Complilation "Christmas For Everyone". They did "Johnny Cash: The Tribute Show" at Megaro Mousikis Athinon [March 2014] and released "Suicide Avenue / Winter's Almost Gone" [2014]. Since then Eirini Dimopoulou joined the band as the lead singer along with their long time friend Makis Dremetsikas [Guitar, Banjo & Vocals]. The band recorded their new single: Black River’s Chest [The Burden Revisited] / Flamin’ Rose [July 2014].. The single is an inner lament, an earth elegy who continues their “dusty rock” legacy. Dustbowl’s new approach to their own music fulfilled with their new live concept: the “Goin’ Down Revisited Show”.
