A Single Frame Passing Through the Light was one of those concepts that popped in my head the evening my wife passed away and obviously I have spent a lot of time thinking about it since. Its basically a reference to the frailty and momentary nature of life as a human being. I guess the simile is that human history is being played out like a giant movie and each of us, as a single frame of film in that movie, gets such a short time here as we pass through the projectors light and are then forced to move on to the other side of the reel. Not sure where the concept came from, but all of a sudden there it was and has been stuck in my mind since. I tried to incorporate that line into a song throughout the writing process and it wasn’t until the album was probably 90% finished that I wrote the song with same title. I took it into the studio and we recorded just me, an acoustic guitar, and a single mic in the center of the room. No editing or multi takes, it is what it is, mistakes and all. I think the beauty of that song is in its lack of perfection.
