The Hog spawned from the searing vocals and growling bass of front-man AJ Sapala. The trio amplifies catchy pop hooks with snarling organ riffs and aggressive, driving funk grooves. Expansive soundscapes that start with sweet 3-part harmonies unexpectedly shift into an odd meters, then rip right into thrashing rhodes piano solos without warning. With this album’s off-kilter narrative and unpredictable flow, “The Hog” lives up to their name- offering a fresh carnivorous alternative to Brooklyn’s “organic,” home-grown indie-schlock.
