Singer-songwriter, Russell Wieland , a classically trained pianist, produced the indie rock/synth-pop EP in his Nantucket home studio over a period of ten months. Summer EP is made up of thought-provoking, memorable tunes; a sonic collage of guitars and synthesizers anchored with bright baselines and modern drum programming against a backdrop of multi-tracked harmonies. Russell sings and plays all of the instruments including acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards, percussion, and glockenspiel. The songs are an eclectic mix of vintage and cutting edge, a throwback to the music of the past, but with a futurist look to the next sounds. Russell cites Radiohead and Kurt Cobain, as well as 60's psychedelic rock as a few of a multitude of influences and counts David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, and Rufus Wainwright as vocal heroes. Russell attended art school in Brooklyn, New York and holds a BFA in filmmaking from the Massachusetts College of Art. Wieland lives on Nantucket island in Massachusetts, and also makes Art as a photographer, filmmaker, and painter.
