简介
by Dan Warburton After an initial squall of noise, Jérôme Noetinger and Erik M settle into a diligent exploration of their arsenal of electronic equipment (Erik M is billed as playing "3-k pad, ∞ system, MiniDiscs and turntables," while Noetinger adds his customary mixing desk, radio, and contact mics) to create an intriguing profusion of sounds, sometimes identifiable (traffic, voices, snatches of tacky FM radio), sometimes transformed beyond all recognition. Both musicians are experienced and talented live performers, but share a concern for detail in montage clearly rooted in musique concrète. Two recording sessions yielded nine tracks, each patiently reworked into what Noetinger describes as music "based on improvisation, but not 'improvised music'." The track titles are taken from the lyrics of the (in)famous George David Weiss / Bob Thiele song (an earlier suggestion "Revox Chili Peppers" was unfortunately rejected), presumably as an ironic comment on modern times, though this is far from explicit in the music, whose multidirectional chaos is playful rather than terrifying -- Cage's ramshackle 1950s mixes often come to mind. An extremely accessible, often amusing piece of work.
