http://www.reflector-online.com/entertainment/starkville-s-resident-rockers-the-jarheads-1.2453365 The Jarheads are a fierce, young, experimental punk trio from Starkville, Mississippi. They formed in 2006, and as mere high school students, released their first EP entitled No Sugar in 2009. Their follow-up album, Breathe In, the first full-length LP they’ve done, dropped last year. It signified an exploration in sound and maturity, while staying true to its punk roots. The Jarheads are known giving 120% during a live performance, “leaving it all on the stage” afterwards. Their sets can range anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours. The vast majority of their set is original material, but they have many cover options to throw about, including the likes of Joy Division, Fugazi, Pixies, The Thermals, Misfits, Alkaline Trio, The Stooges, etc. The defining element about The Jarheads is that all three are original members, and they formed their craft around one another. Their sound can best be described as thoughtful, progressive punk; often tumultuous, but always pop sensible. When someone hears Mississippi, the first thing to mind probably isn’t strange punk rock. Yes, The Jarheads have had difficulty in their home creating a following outside of young, pissed off kids and wowed musicians. Alas, they must travel to distant lands, ideally yours.
