This music was written with specific systems of aural description. The depictions of unnatural stories told by the unconventional methods of relating "the oldest and strongest emotion[s] of mankind" through natural sounds. The compositional treasures are the correlations between H.P. Lovecraft's best known tales, which evoke our own innate fear of the unknown... and the ordinary pallet of acoustics in the natural world; as well as, what is now achievable with the use of modern technology, the acoustical access to Lovecraft's world of the unnatural. To give it all away would be an injustice to the listener, but here are some examples of what is meant in this: The Picture in the house - Sounds migrated from the savage place from which the picture originated and the savage place to which it settled. Sounds of Cultural origins, as well biological finality. Cats of Ulthar - Most of the instruments are augmented cats... except for parts which sound like cats, those are woodwinds. The Shadow Over Innsmouth - Wind instruments that depict fog horns and the voices of the questionable, mysterious inhabitants (i.e. that Innsmouth sound). Enjoy this album of works subconsciously as glimpse into the environment of the "Old Ones"; as well as an "active listening" experience, by listening intellectually for the purpose and meaning of each instrument as related to these stories of H.P. Lovecraft.
