Rodney Oakes currently teaches college, composes, and performs in Los Angeles. He has pioneered the use of the MIDI trombone, using a tenor trombone for controlling various MIDI devices. Oakes has performed throughout Europe. He also performs with a number of Los Angeles area jazz ensembles, and is frequently heard with OGOGO. Oakes has recorded on the and iii Records , innova, and Living Music labels. The MIDI trombone is the term Oakes uses for his controlling of software synthesizers using a pitch-to-MIDI converter. For this project, the tenor trombone controlled a MX4 synthesizer by Digital Performer. A Yamaha G50 MIDI converter was used, along with a Yamaha MFC foot pedal board. Krystyna Rogowiec Oakes, narrator for Greco-Roman Songs teaches college in Los Angeles. She also works as a translator and has worked on a number of major films as a language consultant, including the Harry Potter series.
