简介

Here's what's on the CD... Armadillo Bootleg #2 (lots of details about each track) Probably more details than you even want or need, but hey, we're thorough! Cd is 49 minutes in length. 1. STAY AWHILE 2:13 (written by Shelley King & Floramay Holliday) Performed by Shelley King & Marvin Dykhuis Recorded at Dawgtrax, Austin, TX as an acoustic demo. This song was written while I was stringing beans on the porch at Skaneateles Lake in upstate New York. My friend Floramay was cooking nearby in the kitchen and we came up with this toe-tapper. Originally I had Marcia Ball in mind to cover this. The melody of the verses made me think of Marcia’s upbeat Louisiana style blues. By the time I recorded the demo it seemed more country than would suit Marcia. Here’s the acoustic demo that Marvin & I recorded at his home studio. 2. CHRISTMAS IN AUSTIN 3:07 (written by Shelley King) Performed by Shelley King on lead vocals & acoustic guitar, Sarah Brown on bass, Marvin Dykhuis on lead guitar, Chip Dolan on piano, Brad Houser on baritone sax and Greg Williams on tenor sax. This song was written and recorded at Mark Addison’s studio called Aerie Studios for a holiday compilation of Austin musicians to benefit Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. The CD is called HAAM Jam Vol. 1 and is available on cdbaby.com 3. SWEETER 2:58 (written by Shelley King & Floramay Holliday) Performed by Shelley King & Marvin Dykhuis Recorded a Dawgtrax, Austin, TX as an acoustic demo. Floramay & I wrote this on Mother’s Day 2012 sitting on the back deck of her Oakcliff home in Dallas, TX. Our kiddos we’re running wild (my son & her two daughters) and we stole a moment to write about how much sweeter life is with the ones we love surrounding us. 4. IS THERE A REASON 6:06 (written by Shelley King) Performed by Shelley King-acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Marvin Dykhuis-electric guitar & backing vocals, Perry Drake-drums, Sarah Brown-bass & backing vocals, Ron D’Argenio-keys recorded LIVE at the Saxon Pub by sound engineer Richard Vannoy on Sept. 21, 2012 This song was originally release on my debut album, “Call of My Heart” in 1998. I love the way it sounds with Marvin singing the backing vocals! So soulful and powerful! I had to share! 5. WIDE AWAKE 2:24 (written by Shelley King) Performed by Shelley King & Marvin Dykhuis Recorded at Dawgtrax, Austin, TX as an acoustic demo. I wrote this song while camping in the Poudre Canyon in Northern Colorado. The moon was full and I couldn’t sleep. I sat up all night listening to the river, looking at the moon and writing lyrics. 6. DOWN 3:46 (written by Shelley King) Performed by Shelley King & Sara Hickman LIVE on KUT Sara had invited me to perform at an event that would bring attention to the death penalty in Texas. A couple of weeks before the event she asked me to be sure the music I performed would be relevant. After much thought, I realized my songs were happy songs and nothing I had was relevant to the death penalty. I spent the next couple of weeks studying music that was relevant. I listened to lots of Johnny Cash. I studied the stories and case history of women on death row in Texas. This song is not for or against. It is just is. It is written from the perspective of someone awaiting their execution. Not the typical Shelley King feel good song. 7. TENNESSEE WHISKEY 5:53 (written by Shelley King & Tony Velasco) Performed by Shelley King-acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Marvin Dykhuis-electric guitar & backing vocals, Perry Drake-drums, Sarah Brown-bass & backing vocals, Ron D’Argenio-keys recorded LIVE at the Saxon Pub by sound engineer Richard Vannoy on Sept. 21, 2012 This song first appeared on my debut album, “Call of My Heart” released on Lemonade Records in 1998. I wrote the lyrics and Tony wrote the music. I built the melody over his guitar picking. and this song came together over some Jack Daniels. In fact, the lyrics were written on a paper bag that contained the Jack. Toni Price recorded a swampy version of this song for her “Born to Be Blue” album released by Texas Music Group in 2003. 8. FALLING FAST 5:13 (written by Shelley King) Performed by Shelley King-acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Marvin Dykhuis-electric guitar & backing vocals, Perry Drake-drums, Sarah Brown-bass & backing vocals, Ron D’Argenio-keys recorded LIVE at the Saxon Pub by sound engineer Richard Vannoy on Sept. 21, 2012 This song was released on my “Welcome Home” cd that I recorded with members of the subdudes. This is alway a fun song to play live. 9. BRAND NEW DAY 7:05 (written by Shelley King) Performed by Shelley King-acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Marvin Dykhuis-electric guitar & backing vocals, Perry Drake-drums, Sarah Brown-bass & backing vocals, Ron D’Argenio-keys recorded LIVE at the Saxon Pub by sound engineer Richard Vannoy on Sept. 21, 2012 Okay! Here it is. Folks have been wanting this song for years. Every time I release a new CD, I hear from fans that they want this song. It has been so difficult to capture. It never seems to fit with the other songs on an album yet it’s a fan favorite. A LIVE version is the only way to capture the energy. Enjoy! 10. PROMISED LAND 7:16 (written by Shelley King) Performed by Imperial Golden Crown Harmonizers: Shelley King-lead vocals & tamborine, Carolyn Wonderland-vocals & lead guitar, Sarah Brown-vocals & bass, Gurf Morlix-vocals & lap steel, Papa Mali-vocals & lead guitar, “Scrappy” Jud Newcomb-vocals & lead guitar, Paul “Buddha” Mills- vocals & drums, Nick Connolly-vocals & piano. This recording is a TRUE BOOTLEG! It was recorded by someone in the audience who was standing near the soundboard. This show was a big summer outdoor concert in Zilker Park, Austin, TX June 2004. The concert series was called, “Blues on the Green” and there were about 8,000 people in the audience. Months after this show, someone laid a recording on me that they had bootlegged. This is a bootleg of the bootleg! Thanks bootleggers! We’re glad this recording exists! What a great day that was! By the way, the Imperial Golden Crown Harmonizers used to play every Sunday and pass the hat to raise money for local charities. 11. CRABAPPLE 2:54 (written by Shelley King, Robert Cline Jr., Matt Skinner, Steve Cobb) Performed by Shelley King, Robert Cline Jr., Matt Skinner, Steve Cobb. We’re all singing and Matt is playing the guitar...I think...this was an impromptu silly jam at a Memorial Day backyard bbq at Steve Cobb’s house in Fort Collins, CO. We were playing music under and apple tree. There was one limb, heavy with apples, hanging down in the center of our musical circle like a bluegrass band gathers around a single microphone. This silliness was captured secretly on the voice notes on my iPhone. These recordings were all mp3's of outtakes, demos, & live performances. Thanks to Jimmy Nutt for mastering at The Nutthouse, Sheffield, AL Photography & Art by Tony Velasco (C) Lemonade Records 2012, (P)Lucky Monday Music ASCAP
